I Duel With A mixed deck. She’s vastly considered a ‘newbie’ in the duel monsters world and at the moment only has enough cards to scrape together one deck, but she’s aiming towards having a deck of warrior and beast cards.

◊ && This Face is Going Somewhere ◊
Being a child who has always been tall for her age, Akane stands at 5’10’’ in height, finally grateful that her growing pace has slowed down to its steady stop. She consequently falls into the ‘underweight’ category according to her bmi, but the science does not alter her appearance which is that of a slim figure and only lightly hinted feminine curves. Her eyes are the only mature part about her; deep brown eyes hidden behind that lucky oval of thick eyelashes, eyebrows allowed to naturally grow so appear larger than most but not hideously. Her thin lips and shallow eyelids are the tell tale signs of her Asian ethnicity, which barely grace the make up table, however her pastel skin with the ever so slightest hint of freckles, this is often hidden away by a layer of ivory foundation.
Her thick red hair was the base for her name ‘Akane’ meaning ‘deep red’, a tone inherited from her mother’s ginger mixed with her father’s brown. She often wears this up in a messy bun when she is working on something, but otherwise she just lets it hang in loose curls down to the lower of her sholder blades. In her hair she likes to wear odd accessories that look like she has collected together objects from a treasure box; a vast array of different clips, bows or attachments of various colours.
She covers her skin with clothing that matches her messy and mismatched personality; on a creative day she will pick out a vast array of different t-shirts and the one with the craziest of prettiest design would be picked, she would then chuck on a waistcoat and pull on a pair of leggings with a customized hand-me-down denim skirt on top. Her love for all things western would appear in her American black converse and vans black chequered messenger bag, both of which have patches ironed on and coloured with markers.

◊ && I’ve Wasted Enough Time Already ◊
Originally born in Washington DC, America, Akane was set for an easy life. Her Japanese father moved over to America a decade before her birth and owned a tidy collection of book stores in the city, specialising in collecting and selling old or second hand books from all over the world. He met Akane’s mother 2 months into his life in the west, she had been one of the sole friends that made his life a lot easier as he struggled with the inevitability of learning the English language and working at the same time. They quickly developed a relationship s they spent more time together and soon enough came to the stage where they got married and had children.
Before Akane arrived, her mother [Lisa Whethers, her father took her name at marriage] gave birth to Akane’s older sister Tsukiko, deciding that all the girls would be named with a Japanese origin and all the boys would be named with a ‘western’ name, who was born a total of 2 years before her. Akane was born on the 14th of March, just as the flowers began to bud, amongst the slowly rejuvenating earth life around her, hair was the thing that stood out the most, thus bringing about her name ‘Akane’.
She lived a relatively easy life in America, helping out at home and in the shop as much as she could as a kid and her father would often read her ancient tales of his home land in Japan, up until the stage she could read fluently herself and then she would often be found after school in her father’s shop reading up on ancient histories of a different country each month. The past fascinated her, tales of lands and times gone by that sounded like such fairytales.
Her younger brother, Simon Whethers, was born when she turned 5 and soon after her father fell into debt with the book shop business. No one wanted to buy those books anymore and with no way to pay the rent without the shop, they were evicted from their home. Lisa had no relatives left in her family that she kept in touch with so there was hardly anyone to turn to in the US with enough room for their family. In the end her father [Shirou Miyagi] sent a rather pleading letter to his family back in Japan asking for their support, however upon hearing his predicament, Mitsuko Miyagi [Akane’s grandmother] insisted that the family move back to Japan and live with them until their youngest child was of a suitable age for them to be coping with the stress of needing to find a new home and job.
Akane and her family lived with the rest of the Miyagi family in Domino City for a total of 5 extra years, so that when she turned 10, her father had managed to secure a reliable job in the new kaiba corp. industry and earn enough to put in an offer for a house nearby as the children had become rather more comfortable with Japan.
Akane went back to leading her average life past then and dove into her studies of history and the world, missing the freedom of her father’s book stores back in America and the free time he used to have with her.
On graduating from Domino High school, she instantly decided to go into University, she wanted to follow her passion and knew that the more she learnt the happier she would be with herself. She moved into her own flat closer to the university and to free up space in the house for her sister and her to-be-husband, also acquiring a part time job at the local newsagents.
She became involved with ‘Duel Monsters’ during her last year of High school, at the time everyone was talking about the news of duellist kingdom and she felt highly left out by the entire ordeal, the group of friends she hung around in school with were so often talking about it or playing each other so she wanted to give it a try. However, money was a thing you had to earn yourself and since they had begun life in Japan, Akane had to either save up her money or work for it to have what she wanted as although money was okay to come by, it still wasn’t enough to buy whatever they wanted whenever they wanted. She saved up a total of 3 weeks pocket money before buying her first started deck, by which time the Duellist Kingdom championships were already over and the talk of the past, so although she had her own deck now, she had no one who was interested to play it with. Despite this she did try and occasionally when she found someone in the school she would practice a little with her mismatched deck.

◊ && I’m the Next Great Thing ◊
Akane is the kind of person who is easily glanced over, besides her weird taste in clothes and how to spend her time she doesn’t really do much out of the norm for a person her age. She enjoys learning about things of the past and how people lived before her; she is observant and spends an awful lot of time watching the area around her. She is rather self-centred, but not to the extent that she would hurt someone’s feelings as although she is rather friendly, she prefers the company of herself as so far in her life she has lacked anyone who she can truly get along with.
Towards her family she shows love and care, even if she is described as distant from people she does enjoy spending time with them especially her father and grandmother with whom she shares common interests in the past. She does not get along with her sister much who is far too stubborn and spoilt for her own good (Tsukiko never did get used to not having as much money as in the US), however with her brother she is very protective and will often visit him when she has the chance to make sure he is doing okay.
She enjoys having things to care for, which shows in her love for house plants and cats (she has a black tabby named Alexander – after Alexander the great).

◊ && This is a Champion ◊
The raining sound of metal on metal reached the wooden frame of the door to eager ears. The black ears pricking up from their slumberous state on the comforting wooden floorboards, furry eyelid peeling open in its attempt to stretch away fatigue, soft paws padding their way over to the source of this rattling.
Clack. Turn. Click.
And screech.
The head tilted at the irritating noise the door made as it slowly swung open, the form of the animal’s master evidently juggling a fair few bags so he took the cautious route and stepped aside before pestering her for his dinner.
Sigh, no, more like a groan of irritation.
Acting pre-occupied, the cat licked his paw, far from the reach of any falling bags. Meanwhile the woman kicked the door closed, ignoring him and heading straight to the kitchen, anywhere she could ditch the bags fast before she spilled the milk yet again.
The night was already getting into its full swing and Akane was exhausted already, the only welcoming thought was the warmth of her bed and the thought of the book she had scavenged from the depths of the only second hand store that truly reminded her of life in America. She fed the cat, receiving an appreciative rub around her ankles, and locked up for the night.
As the truly welcoming warmth of the covers eventually engulfed her, Akane felt like melting into her usual deep slumber until morning, eyelids growing gradually heavier as each passing second flowed with her back against the soft mattress. Her muscles aching with the fatigue of a long day’s hard work.
“I still have tomorrow to read it…” Akane thought dozily before drifting into warm world of sleep.
