in this world, there is a realm of spirits.
whether we know it or not, it exists. and because humans can never be
with the dead,this intangible world is out-of-bounds to human beings.
however, there are always loopholes and gaps in the rules, and there are
rare cases that a human does end up in the spiritual realm. and
getting back home is in no way, easy.
once a soul enters this realm of the dead, they must sign a contract.
a contract to work for the witch or shaman in charge of the area, of
course! because if a human soul lingers too long in this dreaded realm
of the dead, their body and soul will disintegrate if they do not eat the
food of the spirits in due time. by signing a contract, you will give up
your name, and that is proof of your oath of allegiance to your
contractor. souls, spirits, sprites, and any other mystical beings that
manifests in this realm will look for work as well, to make a living in an
attempt to repeat the cycle of life they had once lived.
once you have signed the contract, you may never leave.
but some will try to resist. or they would sign a contract with someone
else. those wishing to return back to their homeland of the living
must escape this realm before it is too late; in due time, if a
human stays too long in this world, then he would eventually die
and disappear. the realm of the spirits will resurface to meet the living
world each full moon; therefore, during the days of the cycle, the realm
is always moving to some unknown land in the realm of the dead.
enter yu-rei, a ghost town filled with spirits inhabiting the area.
it is run by a witch professing in the skilled field of magical arts, and
binds servants via contract magic. having an infamous reputation of
being a distant relative of yubaba and zenibaba, she rules yu-rei
bathhouse with an iron fist and has zero tolerance for human souls.
but strange things are happening. more and more human souls have
found themselves in the spirit realm; through unknown causes, or some
unknown portal, they have been entering this realm of spirits, and
they are on the rise. whilst some spirits are kind and welcome the
pitiful humans whom are very confused, others are resentful and
would personally like to get rid of these troublesome souls out of town.
and so, whilst budding feelings of rebellion and resentment
towards the current 'system' is on the rise, it gives birth to a new
chaos that underlines the seemingly peaceful facade...
will you bind your fate to the contract?
